  5. Frame / jog to verify origin, then start the job with the lid closed and ventilation on.

For multi-layer jobs (cut + score + engrave), keep layers separate in the vector file and set different power/speed passes in LaserGRBL rather than guessing one global setting.

  • $100 / $101 steps/mm — wrong values = wrong size even when the DXF is correct
  • Max travel — prevent crashes into the frame
  • Laser mode ($32) — enable laser mode when your firmware supports it

If your laser is on a Ruida / Trocen DSP, look at the manufacturer’s software (often RDWorks-family) or LightBurn with a supported license. If you need advanced CAM, nesting, or rotary tools beyond GRBL hobby use, graduate to the tool that matches the controller.
